In Order to meet the Banking requirement and loan facilities of middle and lower middle class residents of Malleswaram area, under the leadership of Late Nanjappa Reddy and other eminent personalities like Late P Ramdev, B Suryanarayan Rao, K G Thimmaiah, S C Venkatesh, K Panduranga Rao, R R Komandur, S.K.Chikkananjaiah, M R G Sharma, K Ramaswamy, C R Venkatesh Rao and other senior citizens, the idea of starting of a Co-operative Bank was conceived, Thus The Janatha Co-operative Bank Ltd., came into existence and was inaugurated in a rented building at Malleswaram 17th Cross by the then Chief Minister of Karnataka Sri S Nijalingappa on 4th of May 1964.
The First Board of Directors consisted of the following twelve persons who laid the solid foundation for the growth of the Bank

Sri M Jayaramegowda, Sri K Puttaswamy, Dr A Kalappa and Sri A Govinda who have contributed for the growth of the Bank along with Late C L Gangadaraiah are presently in the Board of Management to guide the Bank to greater heights.
In the recent past elected members Sri Boregowda, Sri Narayana Reddy I, Sri B K Sathyanarayan, Sri K M Shivanna, Smt S N Latha and Professional Directors Sri D Devaraj and Sri Krishna Murthy C A have contributed for the development and growth of the Bank.
